I observed the two other teachers that taught a TA subject at my school.  Their routines were somewhat the same and I felt it was a good experience to see these two teachers teaching the same TA subject.

Course: Desktop Publishing

Teacher: Mrs. Coker.

School: Lake Worth High School

Observation: Mrs. Coker began the class by stating the measurable progress of the class on the objective that they were to accomplish. She assigned tasks and allowed the students time to share their ideas and volunteer for specific tasks. The class was divided into groups of students working on objectives. Mrs. Coker then spent the remaining class time walking around to the workstations of the students and assessing their progress based on the objectives given at the start of the class. She would take time to access the stored files and go through them to further evaluate the student's performances and make sure that the files were saved in the proper place. I feel that I gained a great deal by observing her interaction with the students.  She has been teaching now for over 25 years.  I think that she could have focused more on the end product, but overall I think very highly of her teaching skills

Course:  Desktop Publishing - Newspaper

Teacher: Mrs. Wright

School: Lake Worth High School

Observation: Mrs. Wright began class by taking roll and then showed the students an example of what the finished product should look like. She then reviewed some useful techniques and strategies for developing a good story and what pictures should look like. She opened the discussion up for student discussion and questions. The class nominated a student to act as editor. She then split the class into groups and handed them objective sheets. She recorded their assignment on the board and made due dates for all the needed elements. She then spent time with each group going over their individual objectives and what elements were needed. She met with the student editor later in the class and they transcribed the assignments into a check list that could be used to put the final project, the newspaper together.  She is also a first year teacher, and it was very interesting to see how she handled her students.  I did notice that a few of her charges were goofing off and surfing non-educational sites while she was busy with other students.  I could tell that some of the students did not have the same level of respect for her as they did with more veteran teachers.  I felt it was a great experience to see what another teacher was going through and how she dealt with the same problems that I was having in the classroom.  It was her first time to teach DP and she was learning the programs at the same time she was teaching them and therefore this did tend to create some problems.
