Personal
Background
I was born
in Las Vegas, Nevada. My father works for
the park service, so grew up in National Parks in the South West United
States including Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, and Guadalupe. We
moved to Big Bend National Park
in 1988. I attended the small school called San Vicente ISD. It was interesting
to be in a school of only 20 students and 4 teachers. I felt that the
quality of the education that I received there was better than that of a
larger school. I of course hated it at the time, but now that I reflect it
was wonderful. I lived in Panther Junction (Big Bend Headquarters,
population 118) until the 8th grade then moved to Alpine (120 Miles away)
to attend high school. Alpine High school was small, only about 300
students and I was very involved in everything from Speech and debate to
the student council. I was elected “Most Creative” I went to Sul Ross State University on full scholarship
for the first two years and then transferred to
Texas A&M to finish my degree in Speech
Communication and Journalism.
While in
college I worked in the Journalism Department’s broadcasting and
multimedia labs. With assistance from my journalism contacts I started my
career in television working ABC Sports Big XII football as a runner, this
is a side job that I have maintained however I have moved up the ranks from
runner. I married Sterling Kenyon after I graduated TAMU in 1999 and moved
to the DFW area. I also began freelancing in Multi Media and created my own
company, Muntean Enterprises. We bought our first house on Lake Worth in 2000 and we are
constantly under construction, but very happy to do so. It has been a
wonderful creative outlet.
Throughout
my life horses have always been a major element in my sanity and insanity.
I currently own and work with paint horses. My horse, Squeetie,
an APHA registered mare, whom has carried me through shows,
trail rides and has taught many others how to ride, had her first foal, Nahla this spring. The birth of the new baby has
rejuvenated my love for horses and has enriched my family’s life. In
addition to caring for my own four legged friends I also train horses for others. I
trained the sire to Squeetie’s foal, Sky
and he has progressed a great deal since that time.
Significant Personal and Technology Events in My Life
Working in the Journalism Multimedia lab was the best working experience
I had to that point. This was my first real experience with technology
(this occurred in1997-1999). Now
that I look back on that time, I realize how much the professors taught me,
even if I did not have them for class.
I was responsible for making sure that their students could complete
assignments and could use the lab resources effectively. Personally I discovered that I could use
my creativity to create more than I ever could without using a computer and
thus expanded my views on technology and its applications. Since then I
have evolved into a software geek and I really love all the new stuff that
comes out every day.
Reasons for Wanting to be a Technology
Applications Teacher
I think that it is very important. I would rather work with technology
than any other subject.
Reflection: After my first year
and involvement in this program it is still something that I value and I
believe it is one of the most difficult fields to teach, however the
“look what I can do” factor is truly very rewarding.
Preparing to Teach
This is my first year and I am not having a good year so far. The kids
are great and I want to show them lots of cool stuff.
Reflection: After Completing my first year, I feel that teaching is the
most challenging and rewarding career in the world. I have enjoyed my students a great deal
and I watched several mature into very good designers and I can see that
they will find success in the future.
I have found that there were many more obstacles than I had imagined
and technology is not always as reliable as you want it to be.
